PVC PEDIMENT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

The following are the manufacturers
recommended installation method for our window headers. They are only
guidelines and should not be automatically construed as the proper way to
attach to your particular home. Variations in homes, age, and surfaces may
result in needs for modifications in the installation. For this reason, it is
highly recommended that you have a handyman, carpenter, or other professional assess
your unique situation prior to installing these window headers to maximize your
safety. The manufacturer of these pediments claims no liability or
responsibility for damages due to improper installation.
Step 1: Remove your pediment
from the packaging.
Step 2: Hold the pediment
above the window to make sure it will fit properly and that there are no unforeseen
obstacles in the way.
Step 3: “Countersink” the holes
in the proper locations on your pediment. It is usually recommended that there
be approximately one hole every 16 inches and that the holes on the end are
within 4 inches of the edges of the pediment. A countersink allows the head of
the screws to sink beneath the pediment to later be filled with caulk. The
screws need to penetrate plywood and/or studs to have the proper grab. Consult
a professional if unsure.
Step 4: Additionally, apply a construction adhesive on the
back of the pediment. Hold the pediment back up to the window. You are now
ready to tighten the deck screw on the pediment. The combination of
construction adhesive on the back and screws is recommended.
Step 5: Prior to fully
tightening the deck screws, you may wish to place a level on top of the
pediment to check for levelness.
Step 6: (Optional) If there is a gap
between the pediment and wall you may need to use a shim with construction
adhesive to close in the space (See diagram for example).
Step 7: Caulk around the top
and sides of your pediment with a clear or white silicon to make watertight.
Fill the countersunk screw holes with a white caulk for the best color match.
Step 8: Feel free to paint the
pediment for best result. You can also leave white if desired. For painting,
there is no need to prime, simply brush or roll with any exterior latex paint. Oil based paints and spray paints will not
work. Sherwin Williams is recommended for the best result.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Use ANY exterior latex paint of your choosing. There
is no requirement to prime before painting as the composite PVC readily accepts
an exterior latex paint. We recommend Sherwin-Williams Pro Industrial Multi-Surface
Acrylic Exterior Latex Paint in eggshell finish for fastest cure times and
superb adhesion.

Paint brush or paint roller
It
is easiest to paint your pediments before installing to your home. There is no
need to prime or sand your pediments. Paint directly on pediment with a brush
or roller using any exterior grade latex
paint. Oil based paints and spray paints will not work. It’s ok to use a
professional spray system and spray the latex paint on. Let paint completely
dry before installing to your home. Store boxes in covered garage 2-4 days till
dry.
Tips for
Prep-work
1.
Avoid
painting in direct sunlight or on a surface that is too warm, or heat
blistering can occur. Do not paint in freezing weather or temperatures below 55
degrees. Paint on days with 55 degrees and rising temperatures.
2.
Remove
any water and dirt on the PVC first. Moisture trapped under the paint can push
its way out and cause moisture blistering/bubbling.
3.
DO NOT USE oil-based paint or spray paints in a can.
Make sure that your paint is a 100% acrylic exterior latex paint.
4.
Latex
can take 2-4 days to dry. For this reason, avoid exposing to dew, high
humidity, moisture, freezing or rain shortly after you have painted the box.
Painting in a damp basement or similar area can lead to blistering or bubbling
of the paint due to water being trapped inside or under the paint prior to it
drying.
5.
Paint
directly on PVC with a brush or roller using an exterior latex paint.
6.
Do
not store outside to dry!!! Leave in dry garage to dry until ready to install.
